The New Volkswagen T6.1 Range.

Over the past seven decades, Volkswagen proved that they can deliver with their Transporter range. The Transporter is the best-selling van in the world with over 13 Million units sold over six generations.

Since its launch in 2015, the T6 range sold over 10 000 units locally.

Volkswagen South Africa announced that the T-Series range will be updated with a facelifted version which will be badged the T6.1. The refreshed T6.1 will be available at your trusted Rola Volkswagen dealership from January 2021.

The new T6.1 will be available in the Crew Bus, single and double cab Pick Up, Panel Van, Kombi, Caravelle and California.

The iconic facelifted T-Series offers new and refreshed styling, connectivity improvements, interior updates and an array of powertrain choices.

So what is new?

What you will notice at first glance is the beautifully styled new-look grille and bumper, finished off with stylish chrome detailing. The new T6.1 also received new LED daytime running lights which ties in exceptionally well with the new-look grille.
Volkswagen offers the new T6.1 range with six updated wheel designs as well as six new colours. You also have a choice of seven two-tone colour finishes.

Now, the interior of the new Volkswagen T6.1 cabin is updated with additional shelves and trays for extra storage. Although an option, a wireless charging pad is now available in the new Transporter range.

The Volkswagen T6.1 also received an updated steering wheel with electromechanical steering. One of the many things that Volkswagen have always done right is the steering wheel. Volkswagen knew that the steering wheel is the part of a vehicle that the driver interacts with the most. VW have put a lot of R&D behind this. In my opinion, some of the best looking steering wheels out there. Now, we can go on about steering wheels in a different article, but that is for another time. The Volkswagen Research and Development team in Wolfsburg consists of more than 10 000 employees focusing on the vehicles and technologies of tomorrow. The R&D division in Wolfsburg is one of the biggest automobile innovation centres world-wide.

All of the T6.1 models now feature a Composition Colour radio system as standard. The California and Caravelle is fitted with a 10.25 inch digital display, which features the high-spec Discover Pro Media system.

Safety features available includes Hill Start Assist, Lane Assist, the standard cruise control system and speed limiter, Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Auto Post-Collision Braking, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, Trailer Assist, Advanced main-beam control system Light Assist (Optional) and Park Assist.

Volkswagen will launch the T6.1 range with three 2.0-litre turbo diesel motors.

You can have your VW T6.1 with an 81kW/250Nm 2.0-litre TDI option paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. You can also have a 110kW/340Nm option with a 7-Speed gearbox. Then, at the top of the food chain, VW offers a 2.0-litre BiTDI with 146kW/450Nm available with a 7 speed DSG.

Fuel consumption is estimated to range between 7.3L/100km to 8.3L/100km.

The California T6.1

The California is the number one selling camper-van world-wide with 18 000 units sold annually. With the California being a van and a camper, it is ideal for the daily adventurer as well as for big trips.

A 3-year/60 000km Easy Drive Service Plan and 2-year/unlimited km manufacturer warranty comes as standard on the Pick Up, Panel Van and Crew Bus range. The Kombi, Caravelle and California models will be available with a 5-year/ 60 000km maintenance plan and a 3-year/120 000km manufacturer warranty as standard. The service interval of the T6.1 range is every 15 000km. Volkswagen also offers a 12- year anti-corrosion warranty as standard on each model in T6.1 range.
